Recognized Training Provider Spotlight

Cape Fear Community College (CFCC)

CFCC is the only community college to offer specialized training to Fire Alarm Technicians and Apprentices. CFCC remains a staunch supporter of NICET certification and a Recognized Training Provider for over a decade.

CFCC recently launched its federally-recognized Fire Alarm Apprenticeship program in the summer of 2022. It is the belief of the college that properly trained and knowledgeable fire alarm system designers and technicians will reduce the losses due to fire or false alarms, and improve the quality of life in their community.

The Fire Alarm Systems Training and Apprenticeship program at CFCC consists of four-month semester classes and the apprenticeship program. The semester classes include Alarms 101 and Alarms 102. The Alarms 101 course is designed for those individuals who are in the fire alarm industry and will focus on fundamentals. The Alarms 102 course is designed for individuals who are fire alarm technicians, or have intermediate experience in the fire alarm industry and will focus on application and design. The classes are self-paced, offered online and award 14.4 CEU’s (each). Those who are using the course to obtain NICET Continuing Personal Development (CPD) points will max out the category “Additional Education” and earn 45 points.

CFCC’s Fire Alarm Apprenticeship program course work is also offered online. CFCC partners with companies across the United States to provide hands-on training. Companies with multiple branches, or technicians frequently working out of town on remote projects can participate at their availability. CFCC's Apprenticeship program is an excellent resource for upskilling current employees and increasing the pipeline for new talent. CFCC completes all the administrative requirements for the apprenticeship allowing industry partners to focus on training current employees for succession planning and new employees with career development.

Regular semester classes are offered in January, May, and September. Partner companies interested in the Apprenticeship program are encouraged to contact Erin Easton, Director of Workforce Development at eeaston@cfcc.edu.
