Program Development and Maintenance Updates

NICET continues the conversion of Work Element programs to the Standard Model format using computer-based delivery (Standard Model/CBT). Special Hazards Suppression Systems transition ends March 31, 2015. Highway Construction, as part of the Transportation Construction Inspection (TCI) group is undergoing redevelopment and conversion to Standard Model/CBT. Construction Materials Testing: Soils. is next. Plus, the new program, Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems, received a green light for development and is expected to be available in May 2015.

- Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems (ITFAS)
Since the last update, NICET has decided to move forward with development of this new program. Much of the question writing and review is complete and score setting sessions will begin in April 2015. See the News Announcement.

-Special Hazards Suppression Systems (SHSS)
All four levels of the new Standard Model exams have been available since July 2014. The transition period for completion of Work Element testing is over. Going forward, all applications must be for the Standard Model/CBT format. 

-Transportation Construction Inspection
Work has begun on the practice analysis and exam development for the Highway Construction program, and should be completed over the next year. The one year transition phase to complete Work Element testing is expected to begin in November 2015. Additional programs may be added, per the TCI program outline, over the following two to four years.

-Construction Materials Testing: Soils
NICET will begin redevelopment later this year. The one year transition phase to complete Work Element testing is expected to begin in April 2016.

-Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems
As of December 1, 2014, Levels I, II, and III reference the 2014 edition of NFPA 25.
