Systems Software Integrator Progress

The development of the Systems Software Integrator certification program will enter a new phase this April. We are gearing up for an item writing workshop to be held in our Alexandria, VA offices April 17–19, 2024.

In January, NICET released a validation survey to gather public input on our progress to date. More than 200 systems integration professionals completed a survey assessing the frequency and criticality of specific tasks as defined by our Job Task Analysis (JTA) panel of experts. This team, with representatives from industries including defense, energy, aerospace, transportation, pharma, life safety, finance, commercial real estate, among others.

The need for an SSI certification program was identified by a task group within NICET’s parent organization the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). The task group determined that certifying systems software integrators using a standardized and centralized methodology will help secure the software supply chain. The purpose of any certification program must be to reduce risk, improve quality, and ensure public safety.

The SSI focuses on the unique threats stemming from emerging technologies as software and information technology increasingly converges with the operation of physical processes and machinery affecting our lives. The SSI will certify professionals with the knowledge, skills, and ability to ensure integration processes that optimize performance and shield against cyberthreats.
